Props I am going to use

Props are a key concept to the mise-en-scene of my trailer. As my main character Grace has just moved into her new house, I shall have to have boxes filled with different objects lying around the house to make it look like she hasn't fully up-packed yet. Along with boxes, I shall be using a books called Bird Song in the scene where Grace shuts the curtains. I chose to use this book as it shows that Grace is very interested in history, although it is not a fantasy book, thew story is not true.
I will also be using a phone at the beginning of the trailer as Grace is talking to someone about how she has almost finished unpacking the boxes. this is her one way that she can communicate with her outside world.
Lamps and torches will be used when there is a power cut to Grace's house, this will add artificial light and make Grace seem more dependent on the light for her safety.
The bath shall be used when she hears a loud noise with no explanation for, this will help imply that she is in a vulnerable position.

Costumes, Hair and Make-up

For the costumes that I intend to use, my aim is to keep them simple yet slightly sophisticated and not too casual. To start off with, my main character is going to wear jeans and a t-shirt as she is moving into her new house. I chose this due the fact that she has been moving boxes about all day and would probably like to be in something comfortable. Another reason is to show that she many not be fully moved in yet and that some of her clothes are still in boxes and are not yet unpacked she can also be wearing slippers to make it seem like she has made herself at home. I want Grace's make-up to be as natural as possible. This will include a little bit of light foundation, a touch of mascara and a slight hint of eyeliner if needed to define her eyes. I want a natural look as I think that this will emphasis Grace's personality in that she does not really care what people think of her, she is a strong person who does things for her self. Alongside her make-up, Grace's hair shall be left natural also, as my actress is a natural blonde this plays along to the stereotypical blonde in horror films.

For my supernatural being, I am going to have my actress wearing a black dress which looks old and worn. This is to show that this being has been there for a long time, I chose the colour black to use so that when I film some shots that it the being can blend in and fit into the shadows/darkness and only her face can be seen. On her feet I shall leave them bear and maybe add dirt to them to make then look worn and repulsing.
For make-up, I shall make the face look very pale (ghost like) and darken in and around her eyes. This is to make them look sunken and hardly seen. It is known that when you can not see a persons eyes you become more afraid. I shall also add black smudges to the body and skin that is showing this will make it again look aged. When considering the hair, I think that I shall slightly backcomb the hair to make it look messy and that it has been traveling about places.

Voice over or text?

When deciding what I shall use to deliver information to my audience along with the acting on my trailer, I weighed up the positives and negatives of both voice overs and text on screen. This is what I came up with.

About my characters

My main character is called Grace Valentine, she is in her early twenties, about twenty two. She is an independent woman who has recently wanted to start a new life away from her family. Grace has moved into her new house only for a matter of days when she is experiencing some supernatural activity within her new home. Grace is quite strong minded and thinks nothing of it, it may just be her mind playing tricks on her. She goes on her day to day life as she want to be more independent and not tell anyone what is going on at home.
I want to show how Grace's personality is changing throughout the trailer, I want her to start getting more paranoid also starting to believe that something is following her.

The other character that I am having in my trailer is the supernatural being who is haunting Grace. The reason that I am only having two Characters in my trailer is to show isolation. The fear of being alone in your time of need. By adding in this emotion I hope it reaches my audience and plays on their fears, this will hopefully build a connection between themselves and my trailer.

Soundtrack ideas

I made a Sound Cloud account that features some sound tracks that I feel could potentially be apart of my trailer. I chose them because of the pace of them, they are all quite steady yet mysterious at the same time. They fit to conventional horror music due to how they sound, it is not modern contemporary music, yet it is still intriguing and I hope that it will captivate my audience.

Lighting

Lighting is a key element to filming which I have taken into careful consideration. As my trailer will predominantly be filmed in the evening when it is dark I shall have to think about my lighting in great detail. To avoid having a yellowish tint to my trailer I shall hopefully be filming with white light as this reduces the chance of my footage looking less professional.
Considering this, it means that when I film outside I shall have to ask people to help me hold lights and to make sure that they are all in the right position. I think that by using extra lighting when filming outside it will help pick up the facial features which are very important to the narrative of my trailer.
What I do like about my location of filming outside is that there are street lamps. Although these are yellow light and do not emit the sufficient amount of light that I need, they add to the mise-en-scene.
The light contrasts with the dark background to make my main character also stand out; drawing the audiences attention to her yet also wondering what could be in the darkness.
When filming inside, I want it to be as light as possible; this is because id like to have the curtains not drawn when it is dark. This incorporates Claude Levi Strauss' binary opposite theory (light VS dark). I am also hoping to use my lighting to create shadows in certain places throughout my scenes, this could infer to the audience that something is lurking there. This will play on their fears and makes it more of a psychological horror which is what my focus group said they liked best out of the horror genre.

Shot types

This presentation contain both camera angles and shot types that I both found on the internet and primary photos in which I took myself. This has helped me with my trailer as it has kept me aware of the different effects that the camera angles and shot types can have on my main character, mise-en-scene and overall look.
