Locations

When filming my trailer, I found that locations were very important in generating the right atmosphere and mise-en-scene that complements the actions that are going on in the shot.
The first location that I have used is my house. I chose this due to the fact that it is quite old and has an eerie feel to it. It also does not have a very modern interior which is what I wanted for my trailer due to the house that I wanted feeling homely and not a stereotypical haunted house.
Below is a screen shot from some of my footage for my trailer. The window is from the front of my house where one of my scenes takes place. I chose to use this position of the camera as it looks like it is invading the privacy of Grace's home, also it could be interpreted as somebody watching her.
Another location that I used was both my bathroom and living room. i made sure that for the bathroom scene i got rid of all things that could suggest that Grace is living with someone. I took beauty products that would typically be used by a female in her early twenties. Also I took down all the pictures from my walls yet left the hooks there to imply that Grace hasn't fully decorated her bathroom yet since moving in.
In my living room I added extra light to make Grace stand out more and to make the colours of the room also stand out. The mise-en-scene of the living room shows light coloured happy and cosy space which looks safe and a nice place to be. However, by keeping the curtains open, the darkness from outside contrasts with this. The bold blackness of the windows makes the room feel exposed and open to everyone/anything outside.

Another main location that I am using is Hervines Park in Amershm. The reason that I chose this location was primarily because of how close it it and both the lighting from the street lamps and how the trees are planted. The position of the trees create an eerie feel to the shot. The mise-en-scene of the park really plays up to horror conventions and especially when it is starting to get dark. However, when filming here, I need to be aware of what time I start filming due to the lighting difficulties as it gets dark very quickly and especially among all of the trees.

Narrative of my film idea

The narrative

My film will start off with a girl at home on the phone (Grace), the mise-en-scene of this shot will be dark outside, there will be a slight yellowish tinge to the lighting which will make the audience feel a little unsettled, the shot will be high angle, therefore, looking down upon the girl. A knock at the door is then heard, there is then a tracking shot of Grace then walking to the door. I shall follow conventions in a horror film and there will be no one there when she answers it. The screen will then go dark. The girl will resume sitting down and another knock will be heard, yet this time on one of the windows. All the curtains are open and the girl then rushes to close them all.
Text will then appear on the screen saying "Do you ever feel like you're being watched?"
I will then change my setting and again have a tracking shot of the Grace walking down the street, there will be dull lit lighting, Grace will keep checking behind her like she is being followed. The aim is to have this entity getting closer and closer to her, I will show this through influence as you will not actually see this entity. Grace will talk to her friends to seek refuge and advise as she does not know if it is just her mind playing tricks on her or is she is actually being followed. However; events take a turn as the progression of this entity getting closer to her takes a new height as she now thinks that it is in her house. Freaked out, she does not sleep with the lights off, in fact she has multiple lamps and other lighting devises around her as she is afraid of what is in the shadows. She end of my trailer will end of a shot of Grace in bed and hearing a knock from underneath it, she stays in bed, yet looks underneath, the screen will go black and then change to her view point, in which from looking under the bed, you can see a pair of legs standing behind her. Throughout my trailer I intend to have the time of the shots decrease and therefore creating more tension. The sound track that will accompany this trailer will be slow at the beginning with the tempo getting faster towards the end. Bass will be included in the soundtrack along with a few other sound effects such as screaming and a partial part of a phone call. I will show the basic outline of what my "film" shall be about, however due to my focus group and audience feedback, I have found out that my target audience enjoy trailers more when lots of questions are raised and the plot is not fully revealed or there is a non-linear narrative. Therefore, I have chosen to raise questions such as: who is the person following Grace? Is she just imagining it all? are the occurrences that happen to her purely coincidental? Is this supernatural?

Locations

The fist location that I shall use is my house (living room) this is because i have a lot of windows in which to gain lots of shots of both Grace looking out of and the entity looking in.

My second location will be Hervines park in Amersham, I shall use a tracking shot of her walking through the path along side the park where there are street lamps which should give a good atmospheric setting.

I shall also be using the woods near my house.

Grace shall be wearing sophisticated mature clothes, Which as the trailer goes on, will start to turn more slobby because it is showing how her personality is changing. The colour of her outfits will also change from quite pale colours to dark ones to represent ho her mind and world around her is becoming darker.

The entity will be wearing smart black shoes and black trousers. You will not see it much and when you do it will only be either a silhouette or a shot on its lower legs.
